1. Who we are

SaluPaws ("we", "us", "our") is a dog nutrition tracking application available on iOS and Android. The app is operated by the SaluPaws team. For data protection purposes, SaluPaws is the data controller for personal data collected through the app and this website.

2. What data we collect

Account data

• Email address (required to create an account)
• Your first name (optional, used to personalise the experience)

Dog profile data

• Dog's name, breed, date of birth, weight
• Neutered/spayed status
• Activity level and body condition score
• Health and nutrition goal (maintain, lose, or gain weight)

Logged health data

• Food entries: food name, portion size, calories, category, date
• Exercise entries: activity type, duration, date
• Weight entries: weight in kg, date
• Photos of meals (Premium subscribers only, stored securely)

Subscription and payment data

We do not collect or store payment card details. Subscriptions are managed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), depending on your device, together with RevenueCat. We receive subscription status information (active, cancelled, expired) but not payment details.

Usage data

• App interactions (e.g. features used, screens visited) — collected anonymously for improving the app
• Device type and operating system version
• Crash reports and error logs

AI Coach conversations

Questions you ask the SaluPaws AI Coach are processed by OpenAI to generate responses. Your message is sent together with your first name and context about your dog — breed, age, weight, diet, allergies, medical conditions, medications, vaccinations, vet details, and recent food, exercise and weight logs — so the answer is relevant. We do not send your email address or password. We ask for your explicit consent before your first message, and you can turn the AI Coach off at any time in Settings → Account. Conversations are not used to train AI models.

3. How we use your data

• To provide and operate the SaluPaws service
• To calculate personalised daily calorie targets for your dog
• To generate vet-ready health reports (Premium)
• To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, subscription receipts)
• To provide customer support when you contact us
• To improve and develop the app

4. Legal basis for processing (UK/EU users)

Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR, we process your data on the following legal bases:

• Contract performance — processing necessary to provide the SaluPaws service you've signed up for
• Legitimate interests — improving the app, fraud prevention, security
• Consent — marketing emails (you can opt out at any time)

5. Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate SaluPaws:

Supabase

Our database and authentication provider. Your account data, dog profiles, and health logs are stored on Supabase servers. Supabase is GDPR-compliant and data is stored in the EU. Supabase Privacy Policy

RevenueCat

Manages in-app subscriptions and purchase verification. RevenueCat receives your device ID and subscription status. RevenueCat Privacy Policy

OpenAI

Powers the SaluPaws AI Coach feature. When you use the AI Coach, your message, your first name, and your dog's profile and health context are sent to OpenAI's API for processing — only after you give explicit consent. OpenAI does not use API data to train models. OpenAI Privacy Policy

Resend

Handles transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, subscription emails). Your email address is shared with Resend solely for sending these emails. Resend Privacy Policy

6. Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law (e.g. financial records for 7 years).

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
• Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
• Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
• Restrict — request restriction of processing in certain circumstances

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@salupaws.app. You can also delete your account and all associated data directly from the app: Profile → Settings → Delete Account. For full details, see our account deletion page.

If you are in the UK, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

8. Data security

We take the security of your data seriously. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are never stored — authentication is handled by Supabase using industry-standard security practices. Access to production data is restricted to authorised personnel only.

9. Children's privacy

SaluPaws is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. International transfers

Your data may be processed in the United States (by OpenAI and RevenueCat) and in the EU (by Supabase). Where data is transferred outside the UK/EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including Standard Contractual Clauses.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or via an in-app notice. The date at the top of this page shows when the policy was last updated.
